Assemblies are designed to harness the herd mentality by providing the reassurance of being around so many like minded people. It sends the message - look at how many believe the WBTS message, there are so many of us who believe it must be true! It is also a great opportunity to wheel out the model Pioneers to make everyone feel inadequate and guilt them into giving more time and money.

it was as if the brothers and sisters were already in the new world for, upon hearing this news, there were no tears at all.
instead, it is a humble acknowledgement from the gb of the mind-numbing, yawn-inducing 2-day circuit assemblies.. .

Helping your Loved one correlate WT mind control by exposing OTHEr groups
by Jon Preston inive been watching "the following" lately and my wife watched a few episodes with me.
she couldnt fathom at first the depth that mind control or "destructive influence" can take you.
so in accordance with hassans "freedom of mind" i have decided that exposing other cults to my wife will help me help her to find correlations to the wt and hopefully lead her to the bite model.

Disassociation
by evilone inhi all, i haven't posted here in quite some time.. just as an update, about two years ago, my wife and i moved to a big city about 500 miles away from the town in which we grew up.
we made this move in part to expedite the fading process, which was successful.
when we moved, as i described in an earlier post, we formally transferred from our home cong (where our families are) to a local cong in our new city, and then transferred twice more so as to get lost in the shuffle.

How many in the cong visited you when you started fading
by joe134cd ini'm just curious speaking from a person who has stopped going to meetings.
i have heard reports from inactive ones (or from ones who the elders suspect of going to the dark side) of having so many visits from elders (cong members) that it got to the point of harassment.
surprisingly i have to say from personal experience and from numerous others that i have spoken to that the exact opposite has been the case.

As an outsider I find this discussion interesting. The congs are damned if they do and damned if they don't. If they do chase up faders then this is harrassment and if they don't it is uncaring. Personally I would love it if my wife's 'friends' didn't call her every time she misses a meeting. I think this form of subtle pressure makes her go back the next week.

the assertion has been made that these rules are a "relaxing" of previous restrictions.
the suggestion has been made that this somehow indicates a corresponding relaxing or loosening or lessening of the authority which the governing body (gb) holds over the rank and file (r&f) members of the religion.

Congrats Oubliette - I thinmk you ahve captured the nature of being a Witness and the relationship with the organisation very well. The organisation acts exactly as you describe. I do sense that the organisation is flexing its muscles a bit at present suggesting it may be a bit insecure. At least I hope this is what is going on. The most recent WT Study suggests that funding is becoming an increasing issue.

Funny experience last night...
by pronomono inmy story in brief..... after being a born-in, getting baptized at 15, and seeking to excel based on the approval of elders and my parents, i hit a bump in the road.
i moved to a new congregation, and was a little more than disheartened by the lack of love.
with all my responsibilities removed from the recent move and being told that i no longer qualified for responsibilities due to my declining activity, i sat down to do some long overdue research to appreciate our spiritual heritage.

jlp - I think doing it when it isn't expected makes it better. My ex-wife who was worldly had high expectations and every year it was a drama so that is what I meant by Valentine Day's stress.
But otwo, I would happily shower my wife with Valentine's Day gifts if she left the cult! Who set up the special day gift stipulation in your sister's trust fund? It is a cracker for messing with the heads of Witnesses. Maybe I should do something like that in my will for my wife so I can have a chuckle at her mindless conformity to WBTS dogma after I am gone. I take it you haven't pointed out to your wife the absurdity of getting the gift delivered after V day as a way to cleanse her conscience. Classic
